I was born in 1942. We had two choices – take it or leave it. I did allow our girls to pick one thing they didn’t have to eat. The only one I remember was the oldest didn’t want peas.
Well there is the problem. You put the vegetables on their plate. If you would withhold the vegetables from the child and tell her that they were not for little kids rather it is grown up food, then she would want it.

My oldest great-granddaughter used to eat everything put in front of her. Now, she’s one of the world’s pickiest eaters.

I don’t ever recall my sister or I complaining about the food.
My mom was a good cook if unimaginative. She cooked the same 5 meals all the time, but she cooked them well.
