Whatever their age, dogs aren’t nearly as much trouble as toddlers—especially “Aypo”.

Not to mention starting at middle age you start to do the same thing. Slow down, relax under the shade with a drink in your hand wondering when you became middle aged and not young.

Oh my! I guess I must be getting close to Farley’s age! Because I love doing the exact same things as Farley does on a hot day like this.

Older dogs aren’t stupid. They know what they can handle and what they can’t.

Farley has a lot of hair and may get hot outside. Staying in the cool AC is where he likes it. Age has to do with it also.

I hate the thought of losing Farley. I know it’s only a cartoon, but losing a pet is so hard!Julie

Starting to slow down doesn’t mean you’re getting old, but getting old means you’re starting to slow down.

Sign of aging or adjusting to the habits of their masters? You decide.

Are these the dog days of summer? Have they entered the dog years of their lives?

Well, we do know that Sera and Farley will get a little action very soon! He’s not too old for that, apparently.

Yeah. I have a standard poodle who is now 14, going on 15. She’s due for her annual checkup and shots, but the vet wants to get her heart condition stabilized before they do that. She mostly wants to lie around too. It hurts for her to get up and down, because she’s got hip dysplasia and arthritis, so once she’s in one position, she maximizes it.

But if I go pick up her leash, or if I unscrew the lid of the peanut butter jar, I can turn my head just slightly and see that she has somehow teleported to my side and is ready and waiting for whatever I’m preparing. ;-)

I’m a THIRTY-FIVE year old man with still a sizeable gut! BUT . . . if there is ANY pool on even a mildly warm day, I am IN THERE.

Sign of aging? Or a sign of intelligence?

If we were reading this strip for the first time, we would take the joke for what we see here today. And it’s worth a chuckle at least. Some of us have read the entire 29 years of the strip before and see today’s strip as “foreshadowing”. It isn’t. Farley is 15 years old. That’s the equivalent of 105 years old (not counting the months since his birthday sometime early in the year). You’d slow down too at that age.

“Farley used to run around like that.” That’s a little Farley retcon. There were no comic strips of Elly and Connie sitting around watching Farley run around with Elizabeth.

Elly is looking forward to the big day with Farley and April and hearing those words:

“I now pronounce you dog and wife”.

    :P
