If the Basil reference is confusing, there are two remedies: (1) know that the main character’s name is “Basil Fawlty” and (b) start watching the classics.
If it’s the Rosemary reference that’s confusing, well, I’m not sure. The closest I can get is, watch that old show with the tv writers for Alan Brady (sadly, I cannot mention the name of the show).
