I wish I had something to keep that my mom gave me. She died when I was very young, too young for memories.

Hello legaleagle, susan, frightenup, ncalifgirl, Anona, lindzcoop, Aaron, Gsmom, Billy and the rest of the “Cathy Closet Crew.”

Your mother sounds a lot like my stepmother. Always giving me stuff I didn’t want and then make me feel like I should be grateful. Rarely gave me anything I wanted. Couldn’t wait to get out on my own. Then she still tried to “give” me stuff. I could refuse it then.

I love my mother but I haven’t kept everything she (and my now-deceased father) has ever given me. A few sentimental things from my childhood — yes. Useful things for my house — yes. But I have absolutely no problem whatsoever getting rid of anything I’ve outgrown, worn out or otherwise have no use for (on the sly, of course. I wouldn’t try to purposely hurt her feelings for anything in the world by doing something like that in front of her!).

She could always say she might have the sides taken in to make a playdress if/when she has children (or play shirt if it’s a boy).

Good afternoon GretchensMom, frightenup and SUSAN NEWMAN!

Hi Cathyites!! It’s ok to wait until after they’re gone to start saving things they gave you as memories. When you clean out the house, believe me, there will be plenty to choose from.

For once, Cathy’s mom makes a pretty good point.

Wait—I’m agreeing with a character from the “Cathy” comic. Is the world ending??

Hello, as always, to our awesome “Cathy Clan”.

I am about to face the challenges Cathy is having. The day we left for Phoenix we found over an inch of water in the basement – rec room, bedroom, laundry, lab, bathroom, storage closets. The only dry area was my office/library (whew) but there is water under the floor so everything has to be removed from there too. We were able to leave for the trip on time (5 hours after we discovered the water) since our neighbour just happens to have the area’s only restoration company. Before we left there were 5 guys packing up the entire basement (except for the office – which will happen very soon now that I am back) and putting the dry stuff in a container in the driveway. Once the restoration is done, all that stuff has to be brought back in – and sorted, and old and/or useless stuff thrown out. I could not believe how much stuff has accumulated!! I had better be stronger than Cathy though and actually get rid of lots of things. Good evening fellow Cathyites. Hope you are having a better evening than I am.

I hope Aaron and Billy just had a very, very good party last Friday, and they’ll recover from it soon!

We’re all having creamy dessert withdrawal problems here.
