Being somewhat of an insomniac, I’m usually awake and up an hour before my wife. I sneak into the kitchen and make a cup of coffee and enjoy Go Comics for a few minutes before we go on our morning bike ride. When we get back, I finish coffee and the comics.
I am one of those instant awake folks. Time in the military will do that and you cannot ever shut it off. I recognize those mornings SWMBO is not yet awake and simply sip my tea and shut my yap. Took 25 years to learn that. :-)
Since I’ve “retired”, I usually get up whenever I wake up. Some mornings it’s 7:30, others it’s 3:30 or 4. I can’t stand trying to go back to sleep if it takes more than 20 minutes. A lot of times it’s because of things start running through my mind that I can’t let go. I might as well get up. I know they say that you should keep a regular schedule, but for 14 years I was working 12-hour night shift three days, then flipping it back to days the other four days so I could take care of the kids while the wife went to work.
My dad and I were night people – mom and my sisters were morning people.
Husband was neither – he did not stay up as late as I did, but did not like rising early either. Being self-employed I was not pushed to rise early – just made all my appointments for when I could comfortably get there.
Since Covid we have gotten much worse. As I write this it is 2:54am. Husband has just come back down from his computer and we are having “bed time snack”, which is our third meal of the day, before we go to sleep. I rarely fall asleep before 6 am for the past year or so. We get out of bed at around noon or 1 pm (6-7 hours sleep). It tends towards my natural time. If we need to get up earlier for something – doctor appointment, reenactment event… we do so. Since we both work from home – extremely part time – it is not a problem. We are trying to get back to our old time frame of going to sleep between 2 and 3 am and getting up around 10 am.

When you retire, mornings are the best time. Not so great when you’re working, except maybe Sunday morning.

I love the smell of coffee in the morning and the sound of no one talking while I drink it

I’m so glad that I never became addicted to that stuff! Hot liquid that ramps you up? Nah!

I am a morning person, which is a good thing since I’m lucky if my dogs let me sleep until 5 am

Mornings are great but they need to occur a bit later in the day.

A cup of hot tea and a comfy chair on the screened in porch. Ah, retirement. It’s already a great day.
