A couple of years ago my wife and I attended a Veterans Salute at the state fair. Taps was played followed by a 21 gun salute using artillery, still pretty loud even with blanks. Looking around the crowd you could tell who the Veterans were as everyone else had their fingers in their ears. My wife later said that not only was it loud but she could feel the concussion in her chest. Having been an armor crewman I just thought yeah, I used to live for that. Some of the guys I served with are gone. Rest in peace, Brothers.
Sundown doesn’t come until after 9:00 PM which is my bed time so all the neighborhood fireworks and the city fireworks show make it toughto go to sleep. Thank goodness for molded ear plugs.
I think they need to make July 5th a national recuperation day. That way, those of us who work and were kept up all night by the explosions on the 4th can sleep in and can then get up early for work on the 6th!
To all who live for the Big Bangs and burning a week’s pay on the things: You can get that out of your system in a heartbeat and for free — just sign up for a few years service in the military… and await the next American war of convenience.
Oh, and:
Advice from our amazing First Sergeant, John Brown:
If you want to go forth on the fifth, take it easy on the fifth on the fourth.

I’ve watched a few drone shows. Impressive and quiet.

For me, the sizzle and bang, as well as the smells of the live experience is a big deal.
