Christmas, 1901: The handwritten envelope Changed forever by computers Computers with frozen mouses. Computers with system errors. Computers that can turn 12 months of data base entries into crooked, illegible labels welded to and jamming the inside of the now-useless printer. Christmas, 2001: The handwritten envelope Cathy: Does anyone have a pen that works??

Not necessarily. The rule is that if a word is being used in anything other than its literal, original sense, it takes a regular plural ending. Thus, a computer mouse (as opposed to a four-legged rodent) can be pluralized as either “mice” or “mouses,” with “mouses” being the preferred plural form.

Interesting timing here! We had a computer that had all of the above. Frozen mouses could indicate a virus. System errors could indicate a crash. Garbled files that were corrupted could mean the hard drive is dead. Internet access via modem is inaccessible because of hardware breakdowns. We now have a borrowed computer. lol

Good cartoon. Is it really 11 years old?

I can relate to this. I may write my letters on the computer but I write the envelopes by hand.

I print out my labels and hand write the letter. The mail carrier doesn’t need to endure my handwriting!

And yet, people like receiving snail mail.

I don’t do Christmas letters but I always write a couple of short lines in all the cards I send (76 this year!) just to let them know my family is well and that we’re thinking of them and hope their family is well too; then I hand address all the envelopes. It’s a lot of work but it’s also a labor of love.

Here’s my theory on technology:
When it works, it’s great. When it doesn’t, you just want to throw it out the window.
(You’re welcome.)
I also see that today, Cathy herself initiated the eye-roll in the last panel. Whaddya know? Ha.
HI, MOM! (And, Hello, Clan.)

Since I fight computers all day (and most of the night) long for a living I can REALLY relate to the strip today. Hi Everyone. Hope you all had a good day today. Feeling good tonight – only the top of the tree left without tinsel and I wrapped half my presents today. I just might be ready for next Tuesday.

Today we celebrated my 65th birthday — which is actually tomorrow but there was a concert I wanted to see so we combined it with dinner and had a lovely evening. I’m no longer a “pre-existing condition” as I now have Medicare and my husband can feel free to retire (if he ever wants to). Tis a real milestone at our house!
