I can’t help feeling sorry for Roger as he says this. But at the same time, it’s not right to make other people do things they hate so you can correct some long-passed regret.
“That cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon…” The kids are griping now, but there are strong words to what Roger’s saying. I know I didn’t get it at either of their ages, but they will. I still hate camping, but I appreciate every day I have with my dad.
So glad my Dad never tried to do this. Our thing was going to baseball games. I didn’t actually like baseball, but my brother explained to me that we did it to make him happy…and we’d get to eat junk food, candy, and drink soda at the game without Mom complaining about it. That resonated as a very good reason to an 8-year-old.

Yeah, Roger, the lesson is that you can’t live your regrets through your kids; they’re not you!

Enjoy your father while you have him, boys. He won’t live forever and someday memories will be all you have.

My father always wanted to go fishing (which he did) but I couldn’t find one thing attractive about it.

Keep on doing this Roger; they’ll appreciate it later on.

Maybe not spend your Saturdays at the golf course so much, but at home with the kids.
