She should be talking less about sex and more about relationships— things like what a healthy relationship looks like, how to identify red flags, how to set and maintain boundaries, what to do if you get in a bad situation, etc. Those are things no TV show is going to teach them.
The sensible thing to do is to start having an ongoing conversation by kindergarten, when they think it’s silly and gross but don’t think it’s embarrassing and weird. You talk about kissing, you talk about babies, you talk about how you can always tell people not to touch you – if you wait until middle or high school, you’ve really put it off.
