Five rich white guys ignore all warnings, literally call safety a “waste of money,” and when they are lost at sea due to their own hubris, six nations send ships and personnel and spend millions of dollars for days sparing no expense to save them from their own folly.

At the very same time, a ship filled with hundreds of impoverished migrants fleeing desperate conditions in search of nothing more than survival and a glimmer of hope of a better life for their children, resulting in hundreds of deaths. The response? Calls for tighter border security and immigration controls.

Foolishness does not merit a death penalty. Nor does the desperate search for a better life. I do not begrudge the effort to save the lives of reckless adventurers disregarding warnings in search of new thrills in turning a gravesite into a tourist attraction. But I do object to the callous disregard shown for others who live in desperation and poverty.

Human life should not be measured in dollars and sense by those who know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

I bet they both believe that immigrants brought malaria to both of their states. They are the first cases in the US in decades.

Terrible tragedy. One report had 104 survivors out of 750 or so. The boat was clearly overloaded. And I’d wager many on board could not swim and were not wearing a PFD. It sank in the middle of the night.

So for hundreds, the event was over in a matter of minutes. Not sure what type of response was expected. Greek Coast Guard had observed the unsafe conditions in international waters and offered assistance.

But for the open borders crew, this tragedy is not to be wasted. Just start lying and claiming government should have just flied the people in from anywhere.

From claytoonz.com – "Republican human traffickers should be charged criminally. Why haven’t they? "

And then there are those like arist “So for hundreds, the event was over in a matter of minutes” so disregard the others that could have been saved with even a fraction of the support provided for the billionaire tourists.

Squiggy is getting worked up and excited over POC and those who speak a different language dying. So much so that he is spelling worse than usual and having even more difficulty with his sentence structure. Like a good lil’ cult troll the death of so many of “those people” is making him get all… tingly. Why he might even iron his brown shirt and polish his jackboots

    No brains, compassion, or ethics!

Mean while at the boarders, thousands of Chinese militants have been caught and a lot have already entered America…they’re here to cause damage, bombings, chaos, etc.

Something NEEDS a to be done…it’s getting to be a “free-for-all” of the wrong kind! ☹️

They are still a poison apple short of Stephen Miller who wanted to know if it was a violation of the constitution to use a predator drone to attack boats of migrants.

Trump adviser suggested blowing up migrants’ boats with drones, book says

Book by Miles Taylor says Stephen Miller made argument people aboard ship heading to US were not protected by constitution

The top Trump adviser Stephen Miller advocated blowing up boats of migrants with drones, according to a new book by a former homeland security official previously revealed to be the “anonymous” author behind a famous warning about Trump White House extremes.

In his new book, Blowback: A Warning to Save Democracy from the Next Trump, Miles Taylor says in April 2018 Miller advocated an attack on a ship heading for the US, saying people aboard were not protected under the constitution as they were in international waters.

The passage was first reported by Rolling Stone, which said it had reviewed documentation that supported the claim.

Taylor says Miller made his argument to Paul Zukunft, an admiral then commandant of the US Coast Guard.

According to Taylor, Miller said: “Tell me why can’t we use a Predator drone to obliterate that boat?”

Taylor writes: “Admiral Zukunft looked nonplussed. ‘Because, Stephen, it would be against international law.’”

‘Democracy is on life support’: the organizers fighting voter suppression in the US south

As the cofounder of a community and capacity building organization for Black political power, Albright frequently travels across the south and has experienced first-hand how the Shelby decision has allowed legislatures to “do really bad stuff without having to get it pre-cleared anymore”. Many of the laws, he says, specifically target Black voters.

“They’re not even trying to hide that they’re literally creating laws targeting our communities, our cities, our counties,” he said.

He remembers the wave of voter ID laws that came shortly after the decision, which ended up being a precursor to other types of restrictions. All of the new voting laws across the south, from Georgia to Florida and Texas, have made voter outreach more difficult. In some cases, laws have criminalized parts of his organization’s work, like giving out food and water to voters in line or handing out voter registration applications.

It makes it difficult to explore good policies because you have to spend so much time fighting the bad stuff.Cliff Albright“It’s made the actual process of reaching voters and increasing turnout more difficult,” he said.

He also worries that the impacts of the decision on the communities he works with are often hard to measure, because they take the form of intimidation and may result in people being discouraged to participate.

He said he feels like the strategy from Republican lawmakers is to constantly keep voting advocates on the defensive by passing law after law that restricts ballot access.

“It makes it difficult for us to be focused on what we do,” he said. “It makes it difficult to explore good policies because you have to spend so much time fighting the bad stuff.”

One little problem about Jim Abbott sitting on a barstool—-the man is in a wheelchair.

Still unspeakably rotten, but in a wheelchair.

No comment from him on the heat wave killing his constituents. After all,the Governor’s Office is air conditioned.

If only the GQP Cult were more worried about getting the fascists out of their party they could stop pretending to feel like they had to make weak attempts at deflection and trying to blame immigrants dying on the party that is trying to allow legal means for people to get away from every day of oppression and entire segments of their countries being controlled by corruption and cartels. But no, they would rather try to make it easier for Big Pharma to thrust more addictive meds on patients (and only years later slap a few people on the wrist after they have moved most of their money out of the reach of the courts). And in the meantime they keep making more and more and more firearms available worldwide let alone on our doorstep because the IRA of the NRA and the firearms industry puts so much money in the back pockets of the Cult’s politicians. Money talk and buys votes while the GQP obstructs and folks die. But that does not stop the GQP Chicken Cult from trying to deflect and distract like the Big Lie propaganda playbook tells them to. Those Nazis learned a lot from the old Nazis

‘These people are clowns’: GOP senator roasted for video warning ‘communists’ against visiting his state

Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) on Tuesday became the object of widespread ridicule on Twitter after he posted a video warning “communists” that they should not even think of coming to visit his state.“If you’re a communist or a socialist… I would think twice if you’re thinking about taking a vacation or moving to Florida,” Scott said in his video.

Ironically, it turns out that Red states are able to carry out their campaign of reviving the old Confederacy and its values of patriarchy, hierarchy, and wage slavery in large part because Blue states are subsidizing them.

While Donald Trump carried 2,497 counties in the 2020 election compared to Joe Biden’s 477 counties, the Blue counties Biden carried generate a total of 71 percent of the nation’s economic activity.

The fiscal health of Blue states and counties — along with widespread Red state poverty exacerbated by Red State tax breaks for the morbidly rich — accounts for the bizarre reality that Blue states are subsidizing the brutal and retrograde policies of Red states.

A March, 2023 report from the Rockefeller Institute lays out how glaring this appropriation of Blue state revenue is by the Red states. In just New York, for example, they write that over a five year period:

“New York taxpayers have given $142.6 billion more to the federal government than New York residents have received back in federal spending.”

As the Associated Press summarized in an article titled AP FACT CHECK: Blue high-tax states fund red low-tax states:

“Mississippi received $2.13 for every tax dollar the state sent to Washington in 2015, according to the Rockefeller study. West Virginia received $2.07, Kentucky got $1.90 and South Carolina got $1.71.

“Meanwhile, New Jersey received 74 cents in federal spending for tax every dollar the state sent to Washington. New York received 81 cents, Connecticut received 82 cents and Massachusetts received 83 cents.

“California fared a bit better than other blue states. It received 96 cents for every dollar the state sent to Washington.”

No Labels has ties to DeSantis and other Republicans

The bipartisan group No Labels quietly employed a firm with ties to GOP candidates during its push for a unity ticket presidential bid, Politico reported. “The firm, Blitz Canvassing, was paid a total of $107,000 by No Labels’ affiliated nonprofit entity, Insurance Policy for America, to help it gather signatures in Colorado, the first state where No Labels, which has floated the idea of an independent presidential unity ticket in 2024, qualified as a minor political party. This would allow it to field a presidential candidate in the state,” Politico’s report stated.
