Maybe it’s human nature. The personal, the anecdote almost always registers more than the large scale, far away event/tragedy. Then when you add in most people’s inherent innumeracy, you might have an answer to the question.
Or it’s a huge news story when 5 ultra-rich people die in a submarine from their own foolishness, but 100 wedding guests die when a boat capsizes in Nigeria, and it’s hardly worth a mention.
According to Stanti in the Stanti/Rall podcast coming out of late 2021, the DEMs were going to be DESTROYED in the mid-terms the next year. These two are just SO spot on with their worldly observations.
Those few “that live by the sword … die by the sword”. The remainder die in many many assorted ways. Some few even opt the final touch by “their own hand”. Death in one form or another is a process that has been in effect since time in memorial. So, really … what is the “big deal”? Cease the “yammering” and live yours to your best and highest “calling”

A conspiracy theorist would say that the media plays the news that draws your attention away from the more important things going on.
I don’t know if I’d go that far, but I do think that every news corporation will favor the news that supports their agenda.

“A little girl falls down a well” seems like a very outdated reference.

Editors choose news stories by how likely they are to draw eyeballs and sell advertising; not how useful they are to society.

John Walsh of “America’s Most Wanted” said they did nothing by color. The most recent kidnapped or missing person was the first mentioned on the show.
