Don’t forget Babe’s legendary skirt-chasing.

Babe never pitched and played a position the same seasons. Let’s see Ohtani hit 60 HRs, drunk off his butt. Ohtani, bars, maybe?

Babe also had some issues off the field.

Bob Veale has statistics. And then there’s Jim Rice. And Darryl Strawberry.

There were also some two-way players in the all-black leagues, during baseball’s segregated era. (GoComics’ stupid auto-censor won’t let me use the proper name.) Probably the greatest was “Bullet” Joe Rogan, who spent years as his team’s best pitcher, best hitter, and best baserunner (at which neither Ruth nor Ohtani was noteworthy.)

Ruth’s 1919 season was the closest to Otani—-he was half pitcher,half outfielder.

Ruth,once the pennant was decided,would pitch one or two games a year with the Yankees just to draw crowds.

Ruth said that his pick for an All-Star outfield would be himself and two other “heavyweights”—Fatty Fothergill of Detroit and Smead Jolley of the White Sox,

“All mounted on polo ponies”.

In my book Ohtani is in a class by himself. Longevity is the only thing left for him to accomplish.

The Babe had 123 stolen bases in his career, including home 10 times.
