I work in a store. People try to return stuff they bought from some other store. One time, some guy was yelling at me because we did not have a sales item. He was holding the sales flyer so I asked him to show it to me. It was a flyer from another store.

“That doesn’t matter. I’m here now, so you have to honor my demand.”

A quote from a customer trying to return a Store Brand(WalMart) item to a different grocery store(Publix). “But this is the only store I ever shop at!”

They’ve also tried to return light bulbs with a CVS Drug Store branding. And stuff from Trader Joe. And Target. And multiple local chains…

To paraphrase a cartoonist whose work appears on this site, “People are stoopid. Some more than others.”To paraphrase an old med school professor, “Idiocy tends to run rampant in the human species. We have evolved to a point where we try to protect them at the detriment of us all.”

In my dad’s store my mom once encountered a woman who wanted to buy a coat that was misplaced on a sale rack for the sale price. My mom told her, “I’m sorry, that coat didn’t belong on the sale rack, I can’t sell it to you for that price.” The woman said, “I can make you.” My mom smiled and said, “How?”
