I originally thought he was under house arrest for something else he did in the woods.

Smarter than the average bear LOL. I remember that from somewhere (Yogi Bear?). Anyway, he (I assume) made the trap snap shut, then stuck his leg through it. I guess he is “smarter than the average bear.”

Yah, because a real bear trap would cause a lot of damage. Everything from a traumatic field amputation to the trapped animal chewing off his/her own foot to escape the trap.

If she would look at the way that trap is hinged, she’d know immediately that it’s fake.

Or, bearly escaped from.

If he would keep toilet paper in the house, he wouldn’t have to go in the woods.
