I never did a somersault. For my safety.

I did several that ended about 1/3 of the way around, with me flat on the ground and my nose bleeding. Then I gave in and started using a cane.

DR: Have you had any falls lately? Me: Does it count if I pop back up? Dr: Yes. Me: Ah, then 3

As I recall, it’s best to do them without landing on your head.

At my age two thoughts come to mind if I attempted to do one.

“Sure I can. Hold my beer.”

“Do you have 911 on speed dial?”

When I see my doc for the regular wellness checkup, one of the questions is “have you had any unexplained falls”? My response is always “no, they’re all explained”

If I even get down close to the ground, I have to find something to grab onto to get back up. Both knees are shot but I’m determined to not have anymore surgeries.

Ha! This reminds me of the January 1 strip, when Brutus spectacularly started out the year by taking a fall on the ice, a strip I love so much I have the print!

At the egging on of my granddaughters, I did a somersault a couple years ago. I found out that my sense of balance has become extremely bad, and it took me several minutes to recover.

Judging from his job experience, I’d say he did somies all the time with bossman which has kept him from being fired. In fact, he can do back flips, too, to keep him out of trouble.

    I’m with you Brutus!

If I ever do another somersault, I promise you, it will be unintentional. I don’t tuck and roll, nor do I bounce like I did once upon a time.

The last time I did a somersault was about 15 years ago. I was walking down a street with my family to take pictures of the flooded Delaware River when I tripped over a bulge in the sidewalk. I tucked my camera and a complete roll back to my feet. My kids gasped in amusement.

“Yet you turned a back-somersault in at the door — Pray, what is the reason of that?”

In judo and aikido, we did running, jumping somersaults and rolled straight to standing. We had to jump over people in training, as in they were standing with just their heads ducked a little. I can’t do that now, or at least I don’t plan to find out. I started those classes in my 30s.

The last time Brutus did a somersault is when he tripped over one of Veeblefester’s money bags.

Chip, the only somersault I can envision Brutus doing is mental gymnastic somersault disagreeing then agreeing with Veeblefester, a recent physical somersault would put poor Brutus in the hospital…

The last time I did a somersault was when I went roller skating. It goes without saying that it was unintentional. I didn’t really, as they say in gymnastics, stick the finish either.
