They’ll be fine Amanda, They will be back to sleep before you leave the driveway.

“Hurry up, we were supposed to be there 30 minutes ago!!” And then we rush and end up waiting behind a fatal road accident or an overturned truck full of livestock or chooks or crap for Costco. Or some such craziness.

Cats are, by human standards, OCD. It’s very important to them that they know exactly what’s planned.

My dad liked to tell a story about my grandma, how she would remember something she’d forgotten to turn off each time they set out on their road trip until one time. Grand pa opened the car trunk to show her the faucets. stove knobs, iron.. everything on the list.

My dad got us up at 0330 to leave the house by 0400 so we’d miss the commuter traffic. I am not a morning person and I can’t sleep in a moving car or on a plane. Honolulu 7PM to Newark NJ at 11AM. No sleep since 8AM Honolulu time the day I left.

Mmm… I could go for some good gravy right now. Good gravy a pile of mashed potatoes.

I’ve had to train myself to not make such a spectacle of leaving for the cats. I finally realized (like Dan pointed out) that they really could care less when I leave, it was just when I came home they would make a production of greeting me sorrowfully. I came home earlier than normal not to long ago, but no cat greeting at the door. I found both boys sleeping soundly all cuddled up on my bed….
