No, PIke can’t. It would really mess up the original Star Trek if he did.

Yes he can. 1.)That Klingon thingy shows possible futures. 2.)The accident is not a fixed point in time. 3.) Pike knows about the possibility and can take steps in preventing it. 4.)Episode 4(?) this season showed that it is possible to change the future with time travel. Pike’s situation is sort of like that in that he has knowledge of what could happen in the future if he does not take steps to change it. At very minimum he could take steps to have the training facility given a deep diagnostic before they go in. Looking forward to next Thursday’s episode. More time travel.

I guess I haven’t seen any Star Trek since the first season of the first series. They started recycling plots about half way through. Maybe some of the other later versions were better.
