    We inherited land from an aunt in a nursing home. What we really inherited was the tax bill until the state got around to seizing the property as payment for the nursing home.

    My parents were reasonably comfortable, though a far cry from being rich. When my dad died, I begged my mother to get a proper will done but she refused.

    I was visiting one time and while working on my laptop she and I began discussing what she wanted done with her estate. With her knowledge and consent, I flipped on the video camera and recorded what she said. I made a copy of the video for my brother and nephew.She steadfastly refused to do a will, either in one of the downloadable forms or with an attorney, even though I said I would pay any fees.

    When she died a year or so later, the only thing that kept the estate from going into probate and the state administering it was the video I made of her.
