The smell of care. I’m not exemplary, but I don’t toss garbage on the floor or out the window. I really get PO’d when I see someone flicking a butt during fire season.
Ohhhh, a 66 convertible. We have a 66 Tahoe Turquoise Mustang with a 200 cid engine. Very basic but my wife drove it new when she was 16. It’s been in the family now for 57 years.
Why would you dump your garbage out? Do you open the door at home and throw your garbage outside? Tobacco is also poison to any critter that might eat it.
I love old cars, I’ve worked as a mechanic, as a designer, and I’m always working on my own. But I hate that old car smell. You usually only find it in 1970s and earlier cars, but definitely in something 1950s or older. I would say even museum pieces have it, but it’s more accurate to say that ESPECIALLY museum pieces have it. I think it comes from the gear oil they use (modern cars use much thinner trans fluid in differentials, because there’s lower friction losses) or possibly old grease in the service joints. It could even be old gasoline, as those are all pre-catalytic converter cars with carbs, so there are plenty of sources for fumes.

And, of course, in many places flicking a butt is sexual assault. As it should be!
