The news business is still a business, you pitch to your audience to appease your sponsors. If the product has become tainted, one must blame the demand more than the supply.
It has always be thus (see newspapers’ accounts of the first years post Constitution, Yellow Journalism, etc.) Certainly something to strive for, but hardly seems realistic when profit motive and human beings are involved. “Caveat emptor” should be everyone’s starting point.
