The last panel is not that far from reality: The Soviets put old jet engines on a T-55 (Cold War Tank) chassis to blow chemical agents off their vehicles during the war that never happened. After Saddam lit all the oil wells on fire, somebody dug one out and went around blowing out the oil well fires: It worked well. It was a lot safer and faster than what Red Adair was doing (He used dynamite on a boom).
Leaf blowers – The lazy person’s rake and broom. (I say that because they don’t pick up anything, they just noisily blow it to a new location and pollute the air…at least temporarily, while doing it. )
in japan it’s standard to have a crew of 10 do the job of one. recently, the grass-cutting crews have been augmented by a guy with a leaf blower, necessitating the addition of another five or six personnel to stand around and watch him. i mean, supervise him…
In DC it is illegal to use gas fired leaf blowers. $2590 fine. Electric and battery are ok though. They are quieter. I personally think rakes and brooms are the way to go. Exercise and nonpolluting. Electric and battery still require the use of fossil fuels in the production of electricity. And batteries require metals that are dangerous to mine.

(Borrowed this from another commenter in an entirely different context, but it expresses my sentiments pretty well).

Why this obsession with leaf blowers? They’re noisy and useless and aggravating.

Strap an old jet engine to the back of a flatbed truck. That’ll impress the neighbors.
