It’s a sickness

I called in so rarely I accumulated 10 weeks worth of sick time

Still don’t call in, but I found out that if the work is done and I leave early I’m allowed to cover it with sick pay

Now I’m down to 9 weeks of sick time

In Iceland, everybody has the right to two days of paid sick leave for every month they’ve worked in the same place (up to a maximum of 360 days). I once worked at a gas station with another guy, who always took his two days off every month. I never called in sick while I was there, but I did arrive late a couple of times, because we had a lot of snow that winter. My being late a few times wouldn’t have been a problem, because it happened so seldom, but because it happened a few times on the same days he called in sick, there was nobody there to handle the first few customers, and that caused a problem. We were both fired.

I don’t call in sick at all, but then, it’s a bit difficult to call in sick when you’re retired!!

Some people can’t even quit correctly, let alone do their job.

In 38 years I called in sick twice – when I had my two children!

“Nobody would hang out here if money wasn’t involved.” Ain’t that the truth?

If you quit, no unemployment. BUT if your fired, you can milk the system.

i accumulated up to the limit in my sick time bank (30 days) and yet was accused of and written up for sick time abuse when i had 2 “occurances” (total 3 days) within a 30 day interval (28 days, in my case.) i told my boss that in future i’d try to schedule my migraine attacks more responsibly!

Why TF even have sick time allowances if you get docked for using a sick day?

What fries my bacon is that corporate bean counters and managers seem to believe & expect that all their hourly employees are malingeres by nature and devise rules to punish them for minor “infractions.”

The short one has the most sense!

You can’t collect unemployment if you quit!!

Had a coworker once who put in her two week notice and then proceeded to call in sick every day afterwards (it wasn’t too unusual for workers to do this since sick leave – unlike vacation time – was not reimbursed monetarily upon departure). She had a change of heart and said she didn’t want to quit after all, to which out boss agreed. But she kept calling in sick day after day until she was in the sick leave hole and the boss fired her for never coming in. I still don’t know what she was thinking.
