I was literally a babe-in-arms when my parents’ dog leaped up on the kitchen counter and ate five pounds of sausage. According to the story I heard years later, my mom assisted him to whoop it right back up, but I don’t know what her method was. It really was an emergency; the dog was an eight-pound min-Pin.
My Doberman taught me to never leave anything out that might even resemble food. My first beagle expanded that to anything that smelled like food, ever was near food, or ever contained food. No garbage is reachable by any dogs in my home. That beagle would even go into a cupboard and take out a plastic container that once held food just because I was 5 minutes late getting home for her dinner. She prepared her own meals if I wasn’t home on time.
The Dobie ate a pair of knee-high socks that were still in the bag, and I had never worn them. Not even food related, so I have been well trained by my pets through the years. I got the socks back, but decided I didn’t want them anymore. She processed them.

Sigh. Where was today’s comic when we paid the Vet $600+ to charcoal-filter our poison eating husky?

Hydrogen peroxide. I forget how much, not much I’m sure, but I was told to use that on my little dog when he ate an ant trap.
