The problem with terminology is that the US has pretended to be the all-inclusive “melting pot”, and people with heritage they’re proud of have to find their own way of referring to themselves that most of the others with similar heritage can agree to.
Because part of cultural hegemony is that “we’re all American” but if you aren’t a white Eurocentric some people will call you all kinds of names other than “American” and tell you that you don’t belong here.

If you don’t want ‘men’ in ‘women’, you spell it ‘womyn’, or at least that’s the way we did it when I was in college.

Gee! You could follow the directions above and offend an entire culture for the span of a month! ORrrrr … You could just be NICE to EVERYONE !!
That said, I like today’s strip. Because people out there (trying too hard to show respect) act that way. … :)
