When I was in Germany with the Army a looooong time ago, it seemed every German man carried a briefcase, even if his job was obviously menial. I later learned this was how German working men took their lunch to work. So the name we G.I.s gave them of “schnitzelbags” wasn’t far off.

Is there an alarm clock in there to wake you up at lunch time?

Yep, done that.

So then why does he make this confession for all to hear, first thing in the door?

Very common. I bet half of all briefcases are lunchboxes.

Brown-bag lunch, no one will ever know…

I carry mine in a tool box.

People will think you are the kind of man who has stains on his briefcase.
