As per usual, when Republicans state “We are just returning things to the states.” they’re lying because they have found out that if they don’t cheat, they can’t win. They’re pushing a federal ban because they have to get women shoved back into the kitchen barefoot and pregnant any way possible.
I suggest that if the Republicans want to protect the health of the party, they need to just ditch the “conservative christian” aka pro-“christian”/racist/sexist arm of the party. It would certainly hurt them short term… but they’d end up being able to appeal to a broad range of voters. And they’re ALREADY hurting both short and long term from the lack of that.
The other bit is to give away the “win by defeating the opposition” mind set. We’re all citizens here, and we all mostly agree on a very large part of what needs doing to keep our nation healthy. So to do that best, we need to compromise. Which means “everybody loses some, but everybody gets some too”. Which seems to be anathema to them lately.
Can’t get agreement across the aisle on restricting abortion? STOP TRYING TO RESTRICT ABORTION.
Can’t get agreement across the aisle on making the southern border impermeable? STOP TRYING TO DO THE IMPOSSIBLE AT THE BORDER.
Can’t get agreement on making it wrong to be gay or transgender? STOP TRYING TO HARM PEOPLE who aren’t exactly like you.
Can’t get agreement to mine more coal and burn more fossil fuels? MAYBE READ A BOOK about climate issues. Or watch a movie if reading isn’t in your wheelhouse.
Can’t get agreement to tax the middle class and give tax breaks to the rich? MAYBE TRY LISTENING TO THE PEOPLE in your electoral district instead of only the richest “donors.”
Can’t get agreement to support lying, cheating, conniving politicians in your party? MAYBE JUST DON’T ACCEPT such people in your party.
We need to ditch the current binary options our political industry has crafted for itself. With gerrymandering, control over state legislatures and promoting purity over compromise and getting the job done, we either have to vote D or R.
We need five to seven political parties, some extreme liberal and some extreme conservative and the rest in the middle or supporting specific political topics such as climate change, reproductive rights, etc. Then when a party falls out of favor by trending extreme, the votes can slide toward the middle WHERE a majority of voters reside.
Maybe if they unite with Dems to help the Postborns…..but that gets in the way of their help the wealthy take more out of society. Can’t have everybody getting health care, a living wage, affordable housing, public education, public transit and all the other socialist-marxist-communist things.

There will never be an Abortion exception within the Republican Nazi Party.
Suffering, death, despair, control, and poverty excites and sustains them.

The QOP can’t have it both ways. They’ll try, though.

The “Republican” party is now the party of Cruelty, Criminality, and Cowardice. Who would want to be part of that?
They are following in the footsteps of the Whig party, the Confederacy, and the Nazi party. Losers all…
