    The axes are labeled backwards. The independent variable (Charts) should be along the X-axis so that the attention span direction is identified correctly and can plummet.

    As a data analyst, I really appreciate this cartoon. I am aware of data displays wherever I see them.

    USA Today usually has good examples of “chart abuse.”

    On the other hand, the icons shown during televised baseball games are excellent. They pack a lot of information on a small part of the screen and it is easy to read and understand.

    If interested in diagrams that actually are so well designed that they allow one to detect a relationship that otherwise would be difficult to grasp, read The Visual Display of Quantitative Information by Edward R. Tufte. It really is mind-blowing; one of the best books I have ever read.
