Pininfarina S.p.A. (short for Carrozzeria Pininfarina) is an Italian car design firm and coachbuilder, with headquarters in Cambiano, Turin, Italy. Just in case anyone else didn’t know.
Italian design studios have a long and storied history of designing beautifully crafted articles that are almost unusable – the company for which I worked once bought an Italian firm that had designed a portable typewriter which was placed in the Museum of Moden Art which was widely acknowledged as being almost unusable…
And most of the autos for which Italy is known are basically undriveable (while being lovely to look at) – I remember one car review of either a Ferrari or a Maserati in which, after rhapsodizing over its style and beauty, stated it was basically undriveable for the average driver because of the necessity for an extra strong “foot” because of the clutch pedal pressure needed – but, GOSH, it was pretty!
Just this week — well after the strip’s deadline — I first heard about Pininfarina (yahoo DOT com/entertainment/1877-hp-pininfarina-b95-electric-030000360 DOT html). It was founded almost a century ago by Battista “Pinin” Farina.

The legs don’t look like anything Pinin Farina would have designed.
