“Neat” also started as a slang word, my dad says his first boss wouldn’t let them say it because it was ‘unprofessional’.

As someone who has NEVER been cool, let me say that I’m cool with it.

I’m cool with being grandpa, even if I don’t understand a lot of what the grandkids say

It doesn’t help that I can barely hear them sometimes

Foodies have some “new” words for cool stuff; just old words with Foodie meanings.

It has been cool since at least 1920. That usage was supposedly started by Louis Armstrong, the first cool hep cat.

Cool will remain cool because it’s no longer slang. Slang words go out of style — regular words don’t.

Rudy Giuliani killed the macarena. It’s true! I remember back in the 90s when the dance craze was sweeping the country. Over the period of a few weeks, it was popping up everywhere. And then… there came that fateful night when, during a baseball game, they were playing the song and cut to the stands, where the then-mayor of NY was trying and flailing to do the dance. Instant un-cool.
