In the last decade or so, scientific studies have upgraded the apparent intelligence of cats. Cats don’t test well on the kind of tests given to dogs and other mammals. It took consulting with some M.B.A.-types to come up with tests that satisfied the “what’s in it for me” criterion at the heart of cat intelligence. :)
