There is one advantage to a dog who doesn’t understand words at all. I can talk about food and treats all I want and she will ignore it. It’s just noise. How did I train a dog who doesn’t understand any words and never will? I don’t know. She was a hunter for 6 years and they didn’t teach her any words. By the time I got her, she had no clue what words were. I figured she would pick up the concept, but she has not. She still manages to figure things out, probably by tone and body language. Now treats in pocket, she will know by her nose, but she will wait for them to be offered.
Rover …… at least you’ve got some company and once you get over the fact that Red has to go to school ….. you should play ……….. it makes the time go quicker ……. :)
One of the kinder things about having a cat as a pet is that they sleep about 16 hours a day, which doesn’t leave much time for “pining” while you are at work.

So Rover is slightly better than Red at same-species friendship.

Rover has already forgotten about him stealing Red’s lunch.

Red’s allure is surely more than treats? We know better.
