For even more fun, replace the pole by a mighty spring.

I know this is a rerun but this is the first Lio comic I ever read. It was put in on a rotation in my local paper to replace Cathy after it ended.

It’s pretty common for rural folks to place a 6" PVC pipe in their T3 size mailbox and fill the space between the pipe and the mailbox walls with concrete or polyurethane foam. Particularly if they have a straight road or a pretty daughter.

    LOVE IT! LOL

This happens to me twice! Plus turfing the lawn. We knew who did it and made them fix everything or we would turn them in!

Another time two detectives came to my front door asking for leads about the mailboxes on the street that were damaged. I didn’t know who they were but the detectives caught them! Turns out the boys were from a prominent member of the city…LOL

I did that. Put a small mail box inside a big one and filled the space between with cement. Worked great.

House up the hill was hit by a car full of kids once years ago. They have a concrete mail post which probably had a steel beam inside to prevent a repeat. So from what I read here, it is okay if kids smash thru your house but you can’t protect yourself? How about the bank which has concrete posts after being hit or the supermarket which also was smashed into? How do they do it legally?

A friend of mine had some pretty wild kids in his neighborhood so he had to buy one of those indestructible mailboxes & post and he also put a huge boulder on his corner to deter the trucks driving across his yard. One Sunday he called to say everything seemed to be working as when he went to retrieve his newspaper, he found half a broken softball bat on his lawn. Later he told me he no longer had tire tracks across his corner lot as well. He never called the cops but rather took care of things himself. I kind of think he enjoyed the challenge.

My dad had put in a mailbox pole made from leftover 4" well pipe, sunk in concrete. It lasted 35 years until the state said it needed to be replaced with a thin break-away pole due to “snow plow compatibility”. After ignoring the letters for a couple years, the state just came out and cut it off at the ground and put in a new break-away pole.

Didn’t Lio do the same thing the bullies were trying to do, destroy the mailbox?

I seem to recall an episode of the original CSI where someone did this. Shattered the arm/elbow of the kid, and the homeowner was charged with endangerment to the kid.

We regularly loose our mailbox. one year, we had 8 accidents on our property in 1 1/2 months during the winter. We’ve lost the posts at the end of the driveway and trees too. When we had horses, every year someone would drive through the fence. Only twice has anyone asked to repair the damage they did. Most just call a tow truck and sneak off.
