I cannot stand hanging out in bars: The mood is never EVER jollier than the desperation emanating from the drunk in the corner.

The reason they have happy hour is because no matter how down and desperate you get, you can drop in and get cheered up that there is at least one other schmuck who is even sadder than you. The guy over in the corner, diluting his whiskey with tears, for example.

Of course, you should then be racked with the guilt of knowing that you are taking solace from another’s woes. That guilt is what keeps you ordering more.
