My aunt Ann did an AncestoryDotCom research and announced proudly we were distantly related the the American poet Amy Lowell. She was impressed when I said, “Wow, that’s fantastic” because I knew Amy was the sister of Percival Lowell who had built the Lowell Observatory out in Flagstaff, AZ to study the planet Mars. I had visited there some years earlier and stood by his crypt next to the huge telescope dome. The crypt has a small dome made of blue glass. If you’re ever in Flagstaff be sure to go there.
When you consider that the Pilgrims were such annoying people that even the notoriously tolerant Netherlands kicked them out after England had kicked them out. And then England kicked them out, banishing them to America. Because they were such hyper-religious fanatics. When you consider that, why are so many Americans eager to brag about being descended from them?
I am not related to Miles Standoffish as far as I can tell. All humans are apparently descended from one male and one female from differing eras, however.

In another place and time, would Miles Standish have been named Kilometers Standish?

They could only trace my family line back to a boatman named Noah. All the records before him were lost in a flood.
