What talk show is Brutus referring to. All the ones I watch everyone is engaging in conversation. So, there’s a lot of listening going on there. Actually, their conversation could be considered more of a debate than simple chatting.
Free discussion and debate of ideas is the cornerstone, not only of Democracy, but of Civilization itself that really can change minds and mold societies. Sadly, people on those “talk” shows just talk to you and true honest debate ends and it just resorts to name calling rather than honest discussions of ideas. Further, on “talk” shows there are the additional problems of time constraints and commercial, which precludes real debate.Brutus IS right. Talk shows are shouting contests, no one is listening, and as such, no one learns and minds cant be changed……
And I don’t want to hear what they are talking about anyway. Whatever event they are ‘pimping’ – plus I hardly know who these people are – my peers are all dying off or already gone.
I don’t watch them because most of them are so biased that when someone with opposing views is a guest, they shout them down. If they would engage in civil discourse and present different points of view, I might watch. What really steams me is that these people get paid big bucks to sit there and spew their particular venom.

Brutus, you’re spot on. So don’t waste your time listening to ex-spurts. The weather channel has more accurate news and that’s amazing.

I do miss talk shows like Jack Paar’s where they had real conversations, and not just promos for their work

It seems every starlet or wannabe has her or his talk show these days. I’ve never heard of them or their guests!
