I’ve never understood why anyone would eat anything that is so hot that it overwhelms the taste of the food!A coworker told me about the dishes his wife would make that would were so spicy that they basically burned him from his mouth to his exit!
The chemical involved is basically an anti-mammal poison. It doesn’t affect anything but mammals. Birds, for instance, are unaffected by peppers. Metal pots certainly are not.
I think the point here is that bird digestive systems do not digest pepper seeds, but mammalian digestive systems do. Thus, a toxin to discourage mammals.
The strangest part of it all is that humans like to eat peppers at all.

Good point, Tank. Even the strongest stomachs couldn’t handle something as hot and spicy as that.
