I was born and raised in the low desert. My third-grade science textbook had a section on weather. We were in a section talking about climate and weather and such. It said "When it’ over 70, hurrah, it’s summer. It sent me running to my mom, book in hand, for verification. “Really? Any time it’s over 70? Does that mean we get out of school?”
