Meteor (prefix in meteorologist) may seem wrong (or at least deceptive), but since “meteor” actually comes from a word that means “something high up (as in up in the air/sky)”, it actually makes sense. Meteors are seen as meteors because they glow because of heat from friction when they enter and pass through the air high up in the atmosphere.
