I grew up in the Florida Panhandle and never even saw a real pumpkin until I graduated college and took a job in Virginia, Consequently, I have no fondness for the flavor.
There are a few good pumpkin spice products. Last year, HEB had a pumpkin spice English muffin that tasted really good. I hope they offer it again this year. Also, my sister-in-law’s pumpkin roll is delicious.
I don’t even like pumpkin spice pie (because actual pumpkin tastes NOTHING like pumpkin spice), so I get painfully tired of the smell— in about 4 seconds. And stay that way until the season is over.
One year when my four boys were small, from kinder to 7th grade, my wife went to visit family in the PI. For a week I did all of the things she usually handled such as cooking, cleaning, and transporting kids to school. One day I baked bread and mad soup, deciding for whatever reason to bake pumpkln soup. The bread was perfect and the soup was – well, I guess it tasted like it should but, unfortunately, that was awful. One of my kids liked it but everybody else hated it and I’ve never done an Act II with it.
