A friend of mine use to tell this story. He was in the bar one night playing pool against himself just for the practice. He wasn’t a great player, but he enjoyed the game just for the fun of it. A guy he’d never seen before challenged him to a game and he agreed and took the break. From the opening shot it was the game every pool player dreams of, he pocketed a ball on the break and lined up the next shot perfectly. The whole game was one lucky shot after another and he cleared the table without missing a single shot. The guy who challenged him paid him and stalked off without saying a word. Later my friend found out from some of the bar regulars that the guy who challenged him was the local pool shark and figured he’d be an easy mark after watching him practice, but after the lucky game the guy was convinced that my friend had hustled him instead. From that day on whenever the shark saw my friend he’d turn and walk away as fast as he could.
