I was up past my bedtime last night. A meeting of Kingdom Pomona Grange in the back forty of Caledonia County. Got home around 9:00 pm (-.-) that is past my bedtime these days.
I staggered out of my room to see 64 degrees and overcast. The forecast calls for showers this morning, steadier this afternoon, high 67.
OK, before getting on with it I should tell you that my info on the Black Agnes comes from a web site called Crime Capsule, I guess the crime was how Hubbard got his money.
“There’s a decades-old story of three teenagers who sat on Black Agnes during a full moon, trying to show one another how brave they were. When nothing happened, they laughed about it on the way home, sure that they’d put one over on old Aggie. One week later, one boy fell and shattered his leg. Another died in a tragic car crash. The third drowned.”
If that wasn’t enough, similar statues of Thanatos or Black Agnes can be found across the country, from Chicago to Maryland to West Virginia—each with their own legends and tales, and every last one of them dire.
The best known example of the Thanatos statues is found on the grave of General Felix Agnus in Druid Ridge Cemetery in Pikesville, Maryland. Beginning with its installation in 1926, the replica was surrounded by many urban legends, principally that someone spending a night in its lap would be haunted by the ghosts of those buried there; that the spirits of individuals buried at Druid Ridge would annually convene at the statue; that no grass would grow on the ground where the statue’s shadow would lie during the daytime; or that the statue would animate itself during the night, whether by physically moving or by showing glowing red eyes. There you go, the scoop on Black Aggie.
May God bless you Vagabonds, and of course have a great day.
Yesterday’s doctor visit was just what I expected. No problems and a bit of good advice.
The kitten (now renamed Scooter) has discovered the library. She’s pulling books off the shelves, but she never stops to read them. Keeping up with her is becoming a full-time occupation. Fortunately she takes naps so we have time to clean up after her. So far she hasn’t really broken anything, just shoved everything around or onto the floor. She’s a sweet little thing, though and very cuddly when she greets you after being out of her sight for a few minutes.
No bible study today because of the church’s “Serve Las Vegas”. I miss it.
Today’s forecast is for 93 and “abundant sunshine”. Direct quote from the Weather Channel.
It was around 45 at get up and the forecast says lite rain all day, high 57. So much for leaf color.
Well, I have a new avatar, it is a grave stone in the Green Mountain Cemetery, it reminded me of something my dad spoke of concerning a grave stone but, I thought he said it was in Hardwick. Anyway, the story was about when a young girl had passed away and her grieving farther who was a stone carver, he took a granite slab and a case of beer into a closed room, when he came out the stone sculpture was completed and the beer was gone. Now I’m assuming that this is the sculpture in question, beautiful work.
I don’t know if the picture in the avatar is all that good but, if you want to see a better image go to google images and ask for Green Mountain Cemetery, Montpelier, VT, you’ll also find more shots of Black Agnes and other interesting monuments.
I ran out of time before I left for church this morning, so it’s about 11 AM now. The skies are clear with and expected high of 95 and more “abundant sunshine”. We should start cooling off Tuesday with a couple of days in the high 70’s but mostly low to mid 80’s for the next couple of weeks.
I put Scooter’s harness and leash on her and took her outside for the first time when I got home from church. She’s doing really well with the harness and other than wanting to play with the leash did well with it too. She learned and accepted her limitations. I left the harness on her when we came inside and she’s behaving as if it wasn’t there. The fun part was that the other two cats were outside at the same time and were friendlier with her than they’ve ever been inside. We’re getting there.
Yesterday turned out to be a lazy day. I spent most of it online, just reading. It wasn’t until 5:00 that Michael came in and asked if I wanted to watch some TV. That’s some kind of a record for me, probably not a good one.
