Free doughnuts and other employee amenities: what management does to compensate for exploiting their employees. Bread and Circuses for the corporate world.
Used to work at a company that had a beer fridge, which everyone had agreed to only open after working hours and be responsible about.
Then, senior management told one of our engineers that he had to move to the division in rural Quebec (after promising him when he was hired that they’d never do that).
He proceeded to start drinking at 10 am on his last day in our office, and was too drunk to be admitted to Canada by the time the car arrived to take him to the Vancouver airport.
He never went to Quebec, and he didn’t get fired, either…too difficult to replace his specialized technical skills.
And the beer fridge stayed, although they did install a time lock.

One company I worked for had Saturday monthly business operations reviews. Lots of data reviewed with supplements of cigars and booze.

How about showing up during a weekday? For those “working from home”, while some of us have to show up every weekday.
