When I was in my early 20s, I lost my car keys in the snowbank. The only place authorized to make a new key was on the other side of town. It was 60 below zero with windchill, and it never occurred to me to just call a cab. I bundled up, walked over and got my key. On my way back, I stopped at my mom’s house to warm up. My sister was going to college in FL at the time and was home for the holidays. She had very quickly acclimated to the FL climate and was constantly cold back here in MN. The thermostat was set to 65, so my sister was usually under a blanket. While I was warming up and chatting with my mom and sister, my sister got up to use the bathroom. She turned to my mom and said “Don’t let him touch my blanket. He’ll make it cold.”

In High school and college I worked frozen foods in a supermarket. My hands have never recovered.

Saccharin is not good for you and is artificial. So, Katy is saying the family’s love isn’t real?

If more individuals embodied this kind of demeanor, we would likely see a reduction in violence worldwide.

In WWII, Nazi doctors tried several things to help victims of hypothermia. My favourite is a pile of naked prostitutes.

Awe… we called that the Family Hug.

Tried to do it at least once a day.

Then, as they grew older, once a week.

    Then once in awhile.

Then, one day, “Oh, Mom Dad… come on, we love you but…”

Sigh… but at least they did do it with their children too…

We call it the amoeba. Half the fun is pursuing the others around the room to absorb them.

I’m sure this is a special moment – everyone else is supposed to get into a big, sweaty pile because he went out underequiped into the cold. :)

The best way to warm up? Both get naked and a lot of skin to skin contact. Best done in private.

Husband and I use a saying from “Mad About You” from Paul’s Uncle Phil (Mel Brooks) – “Firm embrace!” This can be said out loud or merely a reaching of outstretched arms at the other person.

Wow, Katy. I’m sorry you feel that way about affection, especially in families, which is sadly few and far between (if at all) in the so-called family comic, where it usually is substituted with child-bashing, put-downs and toxic parenting and family relationships. (ex.: Calvin and Hobbes, Baby Blues, Fox Trot, Dennis the Menace, For Better or For Worse, etc., etc.) Please, count your blessings.
