After two millennia, it’s not likely the hierarchical church will end. However, a change toward reality of the modern era started with Vatican II would be welcome.

They are the best case for change. Those with a bit of power hang on to it jealously. They also try to gain more power. This is at odds with Christ and his teachings.

Patriarch’s surrender their position in a hierarchical structure? Only after losing a (for them, existential) fight to the finish.

First some dipstick upstart “republic” granted the vote to non-Caucasians (at least it was initially only to males — but, still!).

And they did this even while some way-out-of-line females — whose patriarchal masters failed them in this and likely other matters of necessary discipline — already were transgressively emboldened to demand voting rights for women (gag).

And sure enough, relatively soon thereafter that secondary human category (females) was granted full voting rights.

    TURN BACK THIS CLOCK!

In the first modern republic, prior to 1820, only Caucasian property owning males were enfranchised. Join contemporary Republicans. Eliminate all governmental entities and citizenship rights not established in the original 1797 Constitutional document.

    SAVE FREEDOM!

paid for by scriptural literalist fundamentalist 7 Mountains Christian theocrats, Leonard Leo and the rest of the Heritage foundation, Koch Enterprises and most (if not all) of Libertarian Free Market zealots, and other Christian theocracy totalitarian groups/individuals

The Catholic Church is like the Titanic: it is very large with a lot of inertia and it does not respond well to the helm. It still has a couple of more icebergs in its way. The question is, will it make it to port?

Dismantling the hierarchical Church is an excellent idea, but it’s not going to happen in my lifetime, and probably not in a hundred lifetimes.

Looks like the Bishop in this comic represents Cardinal Raymond Burke.

Omniscient Google says “Catholics belong to the oldest institution in the world. …. it has remarkably grown and developed in the 2,000 years of its existence.”
