While most people seem to feel grackles are incapable of producing anything you could call musical, I’m pretty sure it’s musical to them. So much so that I delayed breakfast about ten minutes one morning to listen when one of them perched in a scruffy-looking orange tree and launched into a performance just as I was getting out of my car.
I don’t speak grackle, but I could tell there was a lot of content in the message; heard similar phrases repeated in different contexts, so I know this was something he’d been working on for some time before releasing it in the concert. (Okay, “concert” is probably the wrong word because it implies ensemble work with others, as in the squirrel “harmonizing” with the songbird; maybe more like “recital”.)

Being a scarecrow isn’t for everyone.
Butt hay, it’s in my jeans.

Me: Son, that Scarecrow over there is the best you can get. Son: How do you know that?
Me: Because he’s out standing in his field.

Some aren’t built for harmonizing, Murphy!

Why are scarecrow jokes so bad?
They’re corny.

I would not be just a muffin’,
My head all full of stuffin’,
My heart all full of pain;
And perhaps I’d deserve you and be
Even worthy even you
If I only had a brain.

Squirrels do not sing.They shriek.

Sorry, Murph. It’s only harmonizing when you hit the RIGHT notes. Otherwise it’s not harmonizing, it’s annoying.

Fair enough birdie. The scare crow is supposed to scare the crow not the squirrel. Note the emphatic Rose.
