According to Wikipedia, Welk was greatly admired by the Mid-West Russian-German community a personification of the American Dream, also Welk did not learn to speak English until he was 21 despite being born in North Dakota which is why he had a German accent.
I often went upstairs to visit my grandmother, and to watch Lawrence Welk with her. She very much appreciated the company. Mr. Welk’s band, it must be admitted, did not have the chops of, say, the Count Basie Orchestra, but they were still good, and the show was quite nicely put together.
Depression rectangle couldn’t be more appropriate. Although Lawrence Welk will cheer me up. Brings back memories I forgot I even had. The simple world of three Channel television.
My wife’s mom was from Webster, SD. She went to the same high school as Myron Florin. One of my dad’s best friends played drums in a Welk second unit band before WWII.
I get the Germans from Russia Triangle inference. (My families)
If Lawrence Welk was still working (and he may be. I have been told, he was, true to our lineage, very frugal. Even at his peak. (?)
I would have loved to hear an introduction like "And now, the orchestra would like to play a tune that askes the musical question… Who Let The Dogs Out?… a one, anna two… "
In his brilliant 2021 novel, Klara and the Sun, Kazuo Ishiguro dubs the ubiquitous device as an “oblong.” Just FYI. “Depression rectangle” is certainly something I can get behind too.

I believe in the UK a “depression rectangle” would be a romantic triangle plus a “gooseberry”. :)
