When “Jesus wept” some scholars believe that it means that the crowd “…not understanding…” was not recognizing him as the Lord of life. If they had, there would not have been all that commotion over Lazarus’s death.
From what I’ve heard of the Synod, the conservatives had the vast majority of votes and didn’t care to hear what the others had to say since in the words of one participant “They said we didn’t count.” :’(
