I loved baseball as a kid, but not as an adult. The lack of true revenue sharing and a salary cap like the NFL means its rare for smaller market teams to compete. The range of payrolls in 2023 were from $42 million – $345. The NFL structure at least makes it that $$ isn’t a major divider between teams (still need to manage who you sign and coach).
I stopped watching baseball back in the 70’s. There was a strike/lock out going on. When you heard I looked at it, from the what I was earning, and what the owners already had (millions) and what the ballplayers wanted (about 10 times what I was earning), I couldn’t see spending my money on tickets to support any of it. A pyramid of the bottom supporting the top. Great for buildings.
Once Don Mattingly retired I stopped watching baseball. Until the pitch clock you could watch 4 games at once since it is so slow. I’d rather the PBA at least it is fast
I’m right there with the big guy. I can not care less about the playoffs and world series unless a team from my state is playing. Even then, I wouldn’t watch every minute.
I watched two baseball games this year. They were on FOX 32 on Saturday night, one Cubs and one White Sox. Free is for me. But now NFL is on, got to go, Thursday night football.
Baseball’s biggest mistake was doing away with afternoon games. Most games start just about most kids bedtimes and aren’t over until well after they are asleep. they just don’t grow up watching the sport anymore. Football and soccer afternoon games, basketball same start times but the games are over much quicker.

Personally, I’d rather watch soccer. Mainly because of Cleats.

By the way, am I the only one who thinks that the baseball season has become too blasted long?

Regional sport? How so vs NFL? I can see Golf since its more individual competitor based.
