Walmart and Target have reported a huge increase in shoplifting since they put in self-checkout. And there are Tic-Toc and Youtube videos showing the best way to steal from these stores.
As a retired programmer I’m confident that tech people will always have to do user support. All software and hardware have bugs and some humans are incapable of following instructions or are incapable of understanding even simple devices like the wheel and the lever.
I don’t mind self-checkout, as I can bag my things my way. CVS sucks and I hate when stores have 8 self-checkouts closed and a line for the other 4. This was Hy-vee today.
