Lots of pubs in this village/ little town, right? I remember also The Checkers. There are others we read about. Who remembers the names of the different pubs?
A week ago, we had a strip with Yorky blown up into a tree. I commented that it was an appropriate reprint as Britain had just been hit by gales in Storm Babet and was still having flood warnings. Someone replied that storms don’t have names and that only hurricanes and typhoons have names. Here in Britain, we do have storm warnings which issue names to our storms. We had Storm Babet just over a week ago and we are now being warned that Storm Ciaren is coming on Wednesday and Thursday.
I remember a similar strip to this one. It used the same pubs and their alliterative pub games:
Mrs Dear: I suppose you’re late because you’ve been playing darts in the Dog and Duck again?
Mr Dear: I have NOT been playing darts in the Dog and Duck!
Fred: Quite right. He’s been playing bar billiards in the Bull.
The UK TV game show “Bullseye” was based around the game of darts and the credits featured a pub called The Bull and an animated cartoon bull from its sign.
Fred’s dinner is probably late. After a while he could decide to raid the next establishment. If out too late, mine would raid the chicken, the tv dinners, and the box containing 15 pounds of milkbones while on the way home from the store.

Darts at the Dog and Duck. Do you have to duck to avoid being hit by a dart?
